Restoring our marine ecosystem, together.

Join the movement to rewild Te Kohuroa Matheson Bay.

Te Kohuroa Rewilding is creating hands-on conservation activities that support our people and the environment.

We’re on a mission to bring our community together to care for our own ‘Blue Backyard’ and inspire a new wave of coastal guardians.

Over the last few decades increasing human impacts such as overfishing, sedimentation and climate change have put immense pressure on the wellbeing of the bay. The marine and freshwater habitats are at a tipping point and they need our help.

We’re working with iwi, organisations and our local community groups to build a ground-up approach to healing Te Kohuroa’s marine ecosystem through a long-term programme of restoration activities.

Our events, activities and workshops are free (and fun) to attend and everyone is welcome :)

Kina are a tāonga species in Aotearoa. Due to ongoing human impacts such as overfishing and climate change, kina - along with other keystone predators such at tāmure (snapper) and crayfish (rock lobster) - are struggling to thrive at Te Kohuroa Matheson Bay.
